Many a Happy Hour has been spent at the West Bank Café immediately above the Laurie Beechman Theatre, in the heart of New York, at 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue. Plan to go down on Thursday, March 12, when OP.LYNX brings you a special evening with Marieann Meringolo and her new program "Here's to the Ladies: A Salute to Great Ladies in Song."
Meringolo's voice is pure and clear, and she conceives interesting arrangements that compliment both the voice and style of this habitué of such diverse venues as Joe's Pub, Friars Club, and the Russian Tea Room. The frisson of surprise at the unexpected is what thrills listeners as a pinch of spice to the experience of hearing her fine, fine voice. Truly wonderful is that this chanteuse is also one of "us".
It's a tough old world out there, and no one knows it better than the women celebrated in this program. Peggy Lee could sing of "Waiting for the Train." Edith Piaf could make you simultaneously wish you were French, yet glad you're not. Rosemary Clooney could sing of long lost love, and who could kick it like Judy? Meringolo's gift is the part of her you'll carry home with you long after the performance is through.
This performance benefits Out Professionals, specifically OP.LYNX, the Women of OP. Mrowwrrrr! The sort of community-building that OP.LYNX specializes in is the best way to make sure we sisters can do it for ourselves (with apologies to Annie Lennox). Get off your collective duffs, women, and support the women who want to work with you and "lynk" with you to get work and play done!
The evening with Marianne Merignolo will begin at 6:30pm and runs till 8pm. Get there early, as it's general admission seating, with a $25 cover and $15 food and drink minimum.
