The Dixon Place HOT! Festival, New York City's Celebration of Queer Culture and Performance, kicked off with a Dyke March night/LGBT Pride eve party, on June 26 at 161A Chrystie Street, between Rivington and Delancey Streets, hosted by Anti-Diva's gracious Liz Liguori and Jessie Mann.
Numerous colorful downtown performers passed through on their way to and from the Dixon Place theatre. There was talk that Justin Bond and friends might stop by and entertain.
While we were there, we heard Dixon Place denizen Earl sing, vehemently, "Love on the Rocks," and Jack, recently from Detroit and self-identified as 'gay friendly,' sing, a cappella, a plaintive "The Minstrel Boy," an old, traditional Irish air, and his own composition about feeling trapped in a job in the corporate world, "Just Say No."
The 19th annual HOT! Festival continues, with theatre, dance, music, literature, burlesque, performance art, and homoeroticism "for the whole family," through August 7.
